...They beat him continuously for six days and nights, and deprived him of sleep. Mr. Jin Yongnan was born in 1948 and was a resident of Wugong Village, Tumen City, Jilin Province. Mr. Jin began to practice Falun Gong in 1994 and all his long-term illnesses disappeared. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in 1999, he was detained and sentenced several times and suffered from brutal persecution. He died on May 3, 2008.
In March of 2000, when Mr. Jin went to Beijing to appeal to stop the persecution of Falun Gong, he was arrested and taken back to Tumen City. Then he was detained for a month in the Tumen City Detention Center and the officials extorted 2,300 Yuan from his family before they would release him.
In January of 2001, police officer Jin Changzhu and others from the Yuegong Street Police Station suddenly arrested Mr. Jin. He was sent to the Shiyan Town Paper Mill Senior Home in Tumen City for brainwashing classes. Mr. Jin along with other detained practitioners was tormented from 4:00 or 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. or midnight. They were forced to run, stand, complete drills, and watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. They were insulted and harassed all the time. Since Mr. Jin refused to renounce Falun Gong, he was transferred to the detention center and then transferred back to the brainwashing classes. He was finally released in mid April of 2001.
In June of 2002, Mr. Jin was arrested again by officers from the Wenhua Police Station in Helong City, Jilin Province. The police punched and kicked him. In July 2002, he was sent to the Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp in Jiutai City, Jilin Province. Guards placed him in solitary confinement and handcuffed him to a bed for nearly six weeks. To protest the persecution, Mr. Jin once went on a hunger strike for 17 days and was on the verge of death. After ten months of detention, he was transferred to the Yanji City Forced Labor Camp and was released in July of 2003.
On February 4, 2004, only half a year after his release, police officers from the Yuegong Street Police Station ransacked his home, confiscated Falun Gong materials, and arrested him again. He was detained in the Tumen City State Security Section. On the afternoon of the same day, the police started to interrogate him. They beat him continuously for six days and nights, and deprived him of sleep. They put a steel hat on him and two police officers took turns beating his head with wooden bats until the bats snapped. His head bled and swelled. They used cigarette butts to burn his palms, and sealed his mouth with tape. They used toothpicks to stab the wounds on his head. After the torture, his whole body was covered with bruises and one of his legs was disabled. They sent him to the Tumen City Hospital when he was on the verge of death.
In October of 2004, Mr. Jin was sent to the Jiutai Forced Labor Camp. Since he still refused to renounce Falun Gong, he suffered even more cruel torture at the labor camp, including the "stretching bed" and "swinging." The prolonged torture made Mr. Jin constantly vomited blood. He also had several other serious symptoms. In November 2006, his wife bailed him out.
However, Mr. Jin was not able to fully recover, he was mentally fragile and lived in fear and anxiety, always afraid to be arrested again. His situation became worse and worse. In March 2008, he started coughing severely. On May 3, 2008, Mr. Jin passed away.
