Ms. Luo’s daughter kissing her photo

Ms.Luo Zhixiang                 Ms. Luo’s daughter kissing her photo

Ms. Luo Zhixiang lived and worked in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province after graduating from university in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. In her workplace, she was well known as a kind and hard-working person. After the central government banned practicing Falun Gong, she and her boyfriend, Wang Guohua, went to Beijing to appeal to the government for the right to practice Falun Gong. They were arrested and detained in Guangzhou City. Ms. Luo was then dismissed from her job. After their release, they both become homeless in order to avoid being illegally arrested and taken from their homes. They married on April 5, 2000.

In October 2000, the couple was arrested because they distributed Falun Gong flyers. Ms. Luo was released because she was pregnant at that time; her husband was detained for 135 days in Baiyun District Detention Center, then sentenced forced labor and detained in the Huadu Detention Center in Guangzhou City. In May 2001, Ms. Luo gave birth to their daughter. To avoid persecution, she was forced to leave her three-month-old infant in the care of her mother-in-law, and she became homeless again. To find her, local authorities put her name on the wanted list and posted a reward of 30,000 Yuan [the average monthly wage of an urban worker is 500 Yuan].

On November 22, 2002, local police found this couple; they sentenced Ms. Luo’s husband, and detained him in the Huadu Detention Center. They sent Ms. Luo to the Zhuhai Detention Center, where she went on a hunger strike to protest the detention. After she had been on hunger strike for seven days, she was examined and found to be three months pregnant. The local government thus released her temporarily to avoid responsibility for her situation. However, authorities of Tianhe District's "610 Office," Xinghua Street Police Station and the neighborhood committee abducted Ms. Luo from her home and detained her at a brainwashing class. She continued her hunger strike; therefore, she was tortured physically and mentally. On November 31, she sustained a severe head injury. She was then sent to a hospital for medical treatment.

Ms. Luo’s family was notified of her death on December 5, 2002, although she had died the day before. She was 29. Her family members found that her face was deformed badly

After his release, Ms. Luo’s husband is homeless to avaid the persecution. Her daughter, who is less than three years old, now lives with her grandparents, she is missing her mother so much, and always hold her mother’s picture on hand. Her mother is still waiting Ms. Lou back because her family members hide her death to prevent her heart broken.
