Li Shumin Shocked to Death at the Banqiao Women’s Labor Camp in Tianjin City
Print  E-mail

Ms. Li Shumin, female, about 30 years old, head nurse at the Medical Center of the Second Medical College in Tianjin City. In 2001, Ms. Li Shumin was detained at the 5th Brigade in the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp in Dagang City. The prison guards constantly tortured her because she refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. She was only allowed to sleep for one hour each day, and was forced to do hard labor day and night while being subjected to repeated beatings and torture. In mid January 2003, prison guards again forced Falun Gong practitioners to do hard labor, working many overtime hours. When they refused, the guards resorted to brutality to force them to work. They took Ms. Li Shumin and another practitioner away for interrogation. Another practitioner  was beaten and shocked until she lost consciousness. The guards used multiple electric batons to shock her until she died. Her eyes remained open when she died. Although her whole body was heavily bruised with blue and dark patches, and the back of her head was heavily injured, the officials ridiculously indicated that the cause of her death was "sudden death."
