Mr. Wang Junsheng, male, 36, was an employee of the General Steel Company in Laiwu City , Shandong Province. In December 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. He was arrested and his company’s policemen Jiao Qiyu and Li Li escorted him back to the work place and detained him for 2 months. He was beaten, subjected to forced brainwashing during the detention period, and charged 10,000 Yuan as a fine. In May 2000, Mr. Wang went to Beijing again. Policemen Jiao Qiyu, Li Li, Leng Dong, Zhang Dukun and Liu Peisheng detained and beat him in the company’s Beijing office. After being sent back to the Laiwu City Detention Center, Mr. Wang went on a hunger strike. He was brutally beaten and force-fed. On July 5, 2000, he was escorted to a brainwashing session at his work place. To protest, he went on a hunger strike and the compay’s Chairwoman of the Workers Association, Ding Yi, grabbed his hair and beat him to the ground.

During the detention, Mr. Wang had a heart attack and was sent to a hospital. He was not released until he was about to die. To avoid recapture and continued torture, in February 2001, he had to leave his home and wander about. The police put him on a “Wanted” list. In April 2002, Mr. Wang was arrested again and detained in Laiwu City Detention Center. He went on a hunger strike many times to protest the inhuman torture, but only received more brutal beatings from the police and inmates. On October 2, 2002, the local court intended to sentence him according to some cooked up “evidence” they had collected. They assigned a lawyer to him but Mr. Wang refused, saying, “I won’t use your lawyer if he is not standing on the side of Falun Gong. What I have done is to expose the evil persecution. I did not commit any crime; you can’t sentence me!” The judge eventually sentenced Mr. Wang to 10 years and he was sent to Jinan Prison, Shandong Province.
