Description:

On October 1, 2000, Mr. Chen Yuqing was sent to the Handan City No.1 Detention Center by the Congtai District Public Security Bureau because he went to Beijing to appeal to the higher authorities for an end of the persecution of Falun Gong. On October 14, 2000, due to the mistreatment he received in the detention center Mr. Chen began to throw up blood and cough constantly. However, the warden paid no attention at all even though they got several reports about Mr. Chen's condition. When Mr. Chen was in critical condition, other Falun Gong practitioners in the detention center pushed the alarm to call for help, but the warden still ignored them. On October 18, Mr. Chen died. After he died, the warden and the prison doctor did not even examine his body. They simply asked other prisoners to carry his body out. When Mr. Chen's body was cremated, the Handan City Public Security Bureau did not allow his family members to be present. On the day of cremation, many police cars and police officers were stationed along the road to the crematory, trying to prevent the news from leaking out.
