Mr. Cui Song is a resident of Jiaohe City, Jilin Province and a Falun Gong practitioner.
During the 2004 Chinese New Year, Mr. Cui Song’s mother, Ms. Zhao Fengzhi, was illegally kidnapped from home. Mr. Cui’s father went to Mr. Zhang Yuhe, the head of the local “610 Office”, to appeal for his wife’s release and was badly beaten.
Seeing that the authorities were unwilling to listen to the appeal, and in order to rescue his mother, on February 19, 2004, Mr. Cui put up posters in Changan Subdivision of Jiaohe City. The posters read “Immediately Release Falun Gong Practitioner Zhao Fengzhi. Zhang Yuhe Violently Beat Zhao Fengzhi’s Husband.” Mr. Cui was soon arrested by plainclothes policemen from Changan Street Police Station.
At Changan Street Police Station, several policemen beat Mr. Cui harshly on three occasions, injuring his left leg and causing him to walk with a limp. Mr. Cui was then illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor. On March 9, 2004, Mr. Cui was sent to Yinmahe Labor Camp in Jiutai City, Jilin Province. This was the second time that he was illegally sentenced to a forced labor camp.
In the afternoon of March 30, 2004, Mr. Cui’s father tried to deliver an appeal letter on behalf of Mr. Cui to the Changchun City Reeducation Through Labor Management Committee, asking them to reconsider this case. The officer there replied, “Other cases may be reconsidered, but for Falun Gong, not a chance!” Mr. Cui’s father requested again and again, and so the officer eventually allowed him to leave the appeal letter.
