Xiao Yafang Tortured to the Brink of Death for Appealing for Falun Gong

Ms. Xiao Yafang, female, 29, resident of Qidong County, Hunan Province.
Ms. Xiao Yafang was detained in a jail for more than two years because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. All kinds of torture in prison caused this healthy young woman to become emaciated and handicapped. In late June 2003, Ms. Xiao was released because she was close to death. The local police forced her family to pay 2,000 Yuan for her release. This report includes pictures showing Ms. Xiao’s condition after torture.
 
Falun Gong practitioners who have been tortured almost to death are often released at the last minute in an attempt on the part of their persecutors to avoid culpability in the event of the actual death occurring in custody.
