Description:
On February 28, 2002, policemen from the Pingshan District Police Station arrested Mr. Tian Xiaofei and his wife at their
home because they practice Falun Gong. The police confiscated all of their possessions, robbed twenty thousand
Chinese Yuan in cash, and divided it amongst themselves.
That night they took the couple to the Pingshan District Police Station where Mr. Tian was beaten during interrogation.
His arms were pulled behind his back and burned on the hot burner of an electric stove. Wang Tonggang is one of the
policemen who tortured him. Mr. Tian's wife was also tortured, and the police extorted ten thousand Chinese Yuan from
her before she released. Mr. Tian went on a hunger strike to protest the ill treatment. After seven days of continuous
torture, he was sent to the Benxi City Detention Center for further torture.
In November 2002, the Pingshan District Court secretly sentenced Mr. Tian to ten years in the Huazi Prison in Liaoyang City.
On July 20, 2003, Mr. Tian began a hunger strike. Recently, Mr. Tian was locked in solitary confinement with two
prisoners monitoring him around the clock. While he is sleep, his both hands are handcuffed to the bed. His health is
deteriorating from the torturous forced-feedings. His face and body has been deformed, and it is difficult for him to walk.
In order to conceal evidence of torture, the authorities no longer allow his family to visit, and will not even permit
medical treatment. The authorities threatened that they would not allow any medical treatment until all of his internal
organs were malfunctioning or, until he gave up Falun Gong.
Because of the prolonged hunger strike and torture, Mr. Tian's life is in grave danger. We are very concerned about
Mr. Tian's life and hereby request an urgent action by the United Nations to safeguard his life. |
