Description:

On January 14, 2004, at about 2 p.m., a group of policemen led by the Chief of the Political Security Team at the Hulan County Police Station, Chen Zhaolin, arrested Ms. Sun Yuhua at her home, because she practiced Falun Gong. Among those involved in her arrest were policemen Wang Keda, Xu Hanbin, Yan Tinghui, Xu Xingwu as well as others. They took Ms. Sun to the Hulan County Police Station, where Wang Keda, Xu Hanbin, Xu Xingwu and others beat and tortured her using several different implements. Later, she was sent to the Hulan County Second Detention Center, where she went on a hunger strike to protest her torture and detention. When she refused to give up her beliefs, she was transferred to the Hulan County First Detention Center, where she continued her hunger strike. There, they used force-feeding as a means of torture, causing her condition to become critical.

As a result of his public disclosure of the facts of the persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Sun's husband, Mr. Zhang Qingsheng, was also detained at Hulan County First Detention Center. The police from the Hulan County Police Station arrested Ms. Sun's daughter, 18, a student at Hulan County College, on January 14, 2004. She was tortured and interrogated for four days, and then sent to the Harbin Second Detention Center.

Due to the prolonged torture, Ms. Sun is on the verge of death. With great concern, we hereby request an urgent action by the United Nations to safeguard the life of Ms. Sun and wellbeing of her family members.
