Description:
In September of 1999, Ms. Li Dongqing went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. She was arrested and escorted back to Shenyang City. She was detained for 15 days, and then sentenced to three years of forced labor at the Masanjia Labor Camp. There, since she refused to give up her belief, the head of the woman's section in the labor camp, Su Jing and fellow guards often physically punished, scolded, beat, and humiliated her. From October 2001 through May 2002, almost 90% of the time she was locked in a solitary confinement cell. She was not allowed to go to the bathroom, had to excrete in the cell, and was also tortured. The longest period of confinement was 22 days, and each time averaged about 15 days.

In September 2002, when Ms. Li's term was over, the authorities of the labor camp refused to release her. Instead, they arbitrarily sentenced her to another five years in prison, and sent her to the Dabei Women's Prison.

Upon arriving at the prison, the guards beat Ms. Li in an attempt to force her to give up Falun Gong. Her body and face were covered with bruises.

At the end of December 2002, Ms. Li was diagnosed with contagious acute hepatitis. The authorities refused to give her medical treatment.

Since the beginning of 2003, Ms. Li has been on a hunger strike to protest the torture. Therefore, she has been force-fed. Three inmates monitor her every day. Guards often beat, scold, and shock her with electric batons. As a result, Ms. Li has suffered mental problems. Recently her body swelled up, and her health is in critical condition.

We are very concerned about Ms. Li's life and hereby request an urgent action by the United Nations to safeguard the life of Ms. Li.
