Description:
Since the end of October 1999, Mr. Gong Chengxi has been arrested four times and expelled from his university
because he appealed to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
On December 20, 2000, Mr. Gong Chengxi was arrested and sent to the Changping Detention Center,
where authorities ordered inmates to beat him, and as a result, one of his legs was swollen black and blue.
He had difficulty walking for more than one month due to the torture. During the detention,
he was forced to sit on a small stool and remain in one position without any movement; otherwise,
inmates would beat him. During the nights, he was forced to sleep on the cement floor without a blanket,
which caused him to be unable to sleep during the winter. For more than one month,
Mr. Gong was not allowed to take a bath. To protest the torture, he went on a hunger strike.
As a result, guards incited inmates to pin him on the ground, insert a rubber tube through his nose,
and force-feed him mixed corn porridge. After the force-feeding, they pulled out the rubber tube very quickly,
which caused his nose to bleed profusely. After being tortured this way for more than two weeks, he was too weak to walk.
On January 22, 2001, Mr. Gong was sentenced to one year forced labor, and sent to the Beijing City Labor Reeducation
Dispatch Division in Daxing County, where he was beaten and shocked with electric batons because he refused to write
a statement renouncing Falun Gong. In the dispatch division, he was forced to work from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. without breaks.
If he could not finish the quota, guards would beat him and force him to work extended hours.
On March 1, 2001, Mr. Gong was transferred to the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Daxing County. In the labor camp,
because he refused to give up Falun Gong, guards Jiang Wenlai, Ni Zhenxiong, Wang Hua and inmates took turns
trying to brainwash him, and forced him to sit motionless on a small stool for more than 18 hours a day.
Most of the time, he was only allowed to sleep about two hours. Sometimes, he was only allowed to sleep for a
half hour each day. The inmates often beat him if he fell asleep. Mr. Gong was tortured to the point where his
body looked like a skeleton, and he was on the verge of a mental collapse. Both feet were swollen, making him
unable to walk normally.
In May 2001, guard Wang Hua forced Mr. Gong to perform heavy labor with minimal food, and incited inmates to torture him.
On May 27, 2001, he went on a hunger strike to [If we read this closely it doesn't make sense: he was forced to perform
heavy labor without food, but then he went on a hunger strike⦠I changed 'without food' to 'with minimal food'

attempts among other mistreatment. As a result, he was sent to a special group for further torture.
Upon being taken to this other group, under the order of team head Liu Jinbiao and officer Ren Baolin,
inmate Li Daiyi squeezed his private parts. Then Mr. Gong was tied up tightly on a bed for one month in
a small cell approximately 1.5 meters wide and 2 meters long without any fresh air. During the month,
he had to excrete on the bed, and he was not allowed to wash. Because he was unable to move,
his back was festered. In addition to this torture, inmate Li Daiyi would repeatedly insert and withdraw
the rubber tube through Mr. Gong's nose while being force-fed, causing extreme pain. As a result,
his nose became swollen and bled profusely.
On June 10, 2001, Deputy Director Zhuang Xuhong, guard Liu Jinbiao, doctor Xiao Zheng, inmate Li Daiyi,
and others pressed him down and fastened his four limbs. They used a steel spoon to pry his teeth and
force-feed him. Meanwhile, they covered his nose, making it difficult for him to breath; two inmates beat
his cheeks to force him to open his mouth. After the force-feeding, his cheeks were swollen, and the inside
of his mouth was bleeding. He suffered such force-feeding twice a day.
During July and September 2001, Mr. Gong was locked in an iron cage and forced to sit on the floor for a
long time each day. Once, he was dragged out and shocked with an electric baton while a guard poured water on his body.
During September and November 2001, Mr. Gong was sent to a special group again for further torture,
where he was deprived of sleep, beaten and shocked with electric batons.
On December 19, 2001, Mr. Gong's term was expired, but extended for ten months because he refused to give up his belief.
At the end of December 2002, he was released from the labor camp.
In August 2003, he was arrested again. His whereabouts are unknown.
Due to his prolonged torture, we are extremely concerned about Mr. Gong's life and hereby request
an urgent action by the United Nations to safeguard the life of Mr. Gong Chengxi. |
