Several Falun Gong practitioners in Baise City, Guanxi Province have been arrested and sentenced to prison for accessing the Internet in order to post or download articles regarding the human rights violations committed against Falun Gong practitioners. The following are a few such cases:

Ms. Liang Changying is a 34-year-old teacher who used to work at the Baise City Party School in Guangxi Province. She has been detained and released multiple times since February 2000 because she practices Falun Gong.

The police arrested her on September 5, 2002, and charged her with writing an article documenting the human rights violations committed against Falun Gong practitioners at the Guangxi First Labor Camp and the Guangxi Women’s Labor Camp, and then posting it on the Internet. Despite the efforts of her lawyer, Mr. Wei Jun, to provide her with a well-argued defense based in the facts, on July 25, 2003, the Youjiang District People’s Court at Baise City sentenced Ms. Liang to five and a half years in prison.

Ms. Wei Xinglian, Ms. Liang Changying's mother, is a 59-year-old retired worker from the People's Hospital in Baise City. She was sentenced to two years in prison for downloading “materials from Minghui.net”1 and giving them to Falun Gong practitioners.

Mr. Fang Guokun is 30 years old and used to work for the railroad in Baise City. He was arrested and sentenced because he wrote an article entitled "The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners by Officers from the Liuzhou Railroad Bureau in Guangxi" and posted it on the Internet.

Mr. Wei Binglian is 41 years old and used to work as an officer at the Price Control Bureau in Baise City. The police were suspicious that he had accessed information concerning Falun Gong on the Internet, so, with the help of colleagues from his work unit, they arrested Mr. Wei in 2002. On August 16, 2002, the Baise City court sentenced him to one and a half years in prison for "illegally obtaining national secrets."

On July 25, 2003, the Youjiang District People’s Court of Baise City sentenced Mr. Wei to another prison term of four and a half years. He was charged with sending both Ms. Liang’s article concerning abuses at the labor camps in Guangxi , and Mr. Fang’s article about violations committed against Falun Gong practitioners by officers from the Liuzhou Railroad Bureau to Minghi.net.
