Ms. Hu Yueyang, 44 years old, from Yuyang City in Hunan Province, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Four policemen locked her up in a small room and beat her and used electric shock on her from early morning until late afternoon. When she finally lost consciousness, they sent her to a hospital for emergency treatment. Her body was swollen and her skin black and blue all over her body. In February 2002, guards incited seven inmates (drug addicts, prostitutes and extortionists) to beat practitioners, including Ms. Hu and Ms. Xiong Runlian. Ms. Xiong fainted due to the beatings. Ms. Hu was on a hunger strike for an entire year. During that time, she was handcuffed and forced to wear shackles every day. Guards injected her with drugs, force-fed her with a sharp bamboo stick used for torture, and inserted a feeding tube into her stomach. Most of her teeth were knocked out as a result of the beatings. In November 2002, Ms. Hu was tortured to death.

Ms. Chang Lan, a doctor and an associate professor at Xiangtan Medical University was locked up in a “special target team.” In September 2002, because she refused to denounce Falun Gong. Ms. Chang was hung up by handcuffs from the ceiling. She was deprived of sleep for eight consecutive days. She lost consciousness three times and was sent to a hospital for emergency treatment.

Ms. Jin Fuwan is in her twenties. She was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. She went on a hunger strike for more than two months. Labor camp officials stabbed her with a needle thirty six times in order to inject her with drugs.

Ms. Chen Weiping, a 44-year-old nurse employed by the Changsha Hospital was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. After she was sent to the labor camp she went on hunger strike for seven months to protest her illegal detainment. Ms. Chen now looks like as an elderly woman in her sixties.

Ms. Xia Ting was sentenced to 2 years of forced labor for practicing Falun Gong. While on a hunger strike, she was injected with psychotropic drugs. The drugs damaged her central nervous system. She has lost all memory, is unable to balance herself while walking, and is stuttering. Her term was arbitrarily extended by one year because she would not give up practicing Falun Gong. On the day of her release, the police attempted to extort 3,000 Yuan from her family, to cover medical expenses.

At the end of October 2002 Ms. Chen Ouxiang, in her forties, from Pinjiang, Yueyang City was sent to a “special target team” to be tortured. She was handcuffed behind her back and forced to watch TV programs slandering Falun Gong. The guards incited inmates to beat her in order to force her to give up practicing Falun Gong. When she lost consciousness from the torture, they sent her to a hospital. After the emergency treatment, they took her back and continued to torture her. When she lost consciousness the second time, they sent her to the hospital again, where she died, six days after the torture began.

Ms. Zuo Shuchun, in her thirties, from the Renqi Company in Changsha City, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. In March 2001, she died after police force-fed her with a sharp bamboo stick.

Ms. Tan Yunfeng, in her thirties, from Haihua, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. On September 7, 2002, she went on a hunger strike. She has not been heard from since.

Ms. Cao Jianzhen, who is 52 years old, from Yiyang was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. On January 25, 2001, several policemen shocked her with electric batons. She fell to the ground and lost consciousness many times. Later, the policemen carried her to solitary confinement and handcuffed her behind her back to an steel door. The policemen kicked her waist with leather boots, causing her spine to fracture and her internal organs to bleed. She vomited blood. Eight months of torture left Ms. Cao emaciated. When the police learned that her hemoglobin count was only 2 grams, they sent her home. In less than a month after being home, Ms. Cao died.

Ms. Liu Caiyun, in her thirties, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. In 2001, Ms. Liu went on a hunger strike for eight months. Police tortured her until she was on verge of death and then sent her home. Four days later, Ms. Liu died.

Ms. Chen Shengtao, in her forties, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. In 2001, the police tortured her by shocking her with electric batons, causing her to lose her balance as she walked. She fell down some stairs and was paralyzed.

Ms. Wang Fuhua, in her thirties, from Chenzhou, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. She went on a hunger strike to protest her detention. The police force-fed her, knocking out three of her teeth.

Ms. Wang Pin is a 52 year old from Yueyang who was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Police handcuffed her in several positions: they handcuffed her and hung her from the rafters or from windows; later they forced her to squat down and handcuffed her, and another time they handcuffed with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. A policeman kept kicking her lower body until she lost consciousness.

Ms. Qi Manying, 62 years old, from Hengyang, was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. When she went on a hunger strike to protest her treatment and was forced to sit on a small stool for long hours.

Ms. Yang Youyun, 62 years old from Haihua was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Police sent her to Zhuzhou Mental Hospital. She has been tortured for three years and her health emaciated.
