Mr. Cao Ping, male, 40, a resident of Caojiaba, Jiulong Town, Linshui County, Sichuan Province, was detained in June 2000 for 15 days because he went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. In May 2001, he was arrested while distributing Falun Gong flyers. He was detained at the Linshui County Detention Center, where Zhao Yong, Li Liangji, and Hu Yu from the Linshui County Police Station and Yang from the Chengbei Police Station beat him until his arms and legs sustained fractures. Then, he was sentenced to four years in prison at the Deyang Jail in Sichuan Province. During his detention, his internal organs were severely injured because of torture and beating. Mr. Cao was on the verge of death when he was sent to a hospital and diagnosed as “untreatable”. On May 27, 2003, the authorities ordered his family to take him home. At that time he was experiencing excruciating pain throughout his body and had blood in his stool. He never recovered, and passed away at 1:30 a.m. on July 17, 2003.
