Ms. Li Kun, 66-year-old female, was an employee of the Supply and Marketing Cooperation in the western suburb of Wolong District in Nanyang City, Henan Province.
In December 1999, Ms. Liwent to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was arrested, and detained at the Nanyang City's Liaison Office in Beijing. Later, she was retrieved by her work unit. Upon her return to Nanyang, she was jailed at Nanyang City First Detention Center (also known as Shangzhuang Detention Center) for one month.
At the end of February 2000, Ms. Lireturned to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong again. She was arrested, taken back to Nanyang, and again detained in Shangzhuang Detention Center for another month. After her release, because she continued to practice Falun Gong, she was under tied supervision for several months by her work unit.
In the summer of 2000, as Ms. Li and her niece were distributing Falun Gong materials, they were arrested by plain-cloth police. Ms. Li was again detained for several months. In the autumn of 2000, while she speaking out in favor of Falun Gong, Ms. Li was arrested by the Wolong District Security Brigade, and again taken to Shangzhuang Detention Center. While in detention, she was not allowed to study or practice Falun Gong. She was tortured and forced to do hard labor. The severe living condition and inhuman treatment led to the recurrence of her cancer of the uterus. After about 9 months of detention, she was on the verge of death. To avoid taking the responsibility, the police asked her family to take her home at the end of August 2001. In November of 2001, she passed away.
