59-year-old Ms. Xiang Xuelan lived on Pingdu Road, Fengdu County, Chongqing City. Because Ms. Xiang continued to practice the exercises of Falun Gong after the persecution of Falun Gong began in China, she was constantly monitored and harassed by the local "610 Office". Her home was ransacked more than five times. On April 13, 2000, she was arrested by policemen of the Fengdu County Police Department, and detained for 2 weeks. From September 4 to 14, 2000, and from January through February 2001, she was tortured at a brainwashing center in Fengdu County. On March 29, 2001, policeman Chen Xionghui deceived Ms. Xiang into coming to the County Police Department, and then arrested her, putting her into the Fengdu County Detention Center. Because she continued to practice Falun Gong exercises at the center, she was subjected to various forms of torture. On May 11, 2001, in order to stop her from practicing, a guard grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall. The next day, Ms. Xiang died as a result of the severe cerebral injury the guard had inflicted.
