Mr. Zhu Feng was Sentenced for His Appeal to the Central Government and Brutally Tortured
Print  E-mail

Mr. Zhu Feng, male, 32, resident of Shanxi Street, Guta District, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, self-employed

On June 20, 2000, Mr. Zhu Feng, went to Beijing to appeal to the central government on behalf of Falun Gong. On June 21, he was arrested at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Then he was escorted back to his hometown by police from the Jinhua Police Station of Guta District in Jinzhou City, and detained for 15 days. After his release, officials of the Jinhua Police Station extorted 1,000 Yuan from Mr. Zhu’s family. Later, Mr. Zhu was arrested again and detained in a brainwashing center, where he protested with a hunger strike. Three days later, he was sent the Jinzhou City No. 1 Detention Center. Mr. Zhu was almost tortured to death at the detention center. His whole body was covered with black and blue bruises.

On July 31, 2000, Mr. Zhu was sentenced two years of forced labor at Jinzhou City Labor Camp where he was forced to do heavy labor 12 hours daily, sometimes even about 20 hours. In the evenings he was subjected to brainwashing.

In August 2000, under the order of Zhang Haiping, Political Chief of the labor camp, guards tortured Mr. Zhu and nine other practitioners. They were forced to run in long loops, stand under sunshine for a long period of time, and listen to recordings that slandered Falun Gong. Meantime, guards often beat up and shocked practitioners with electric batons. As a result, bruises were left all over their bodies. Once guard Da Pan beat on Mr. Zhu’s neck so heavily that he could not bend his neck for a long time.

On October 2, Zhang Haiping took Mr. Zhu to a small cell because he and other practitioners had written an appeal letter to the higher authorities calling for an end to the torture of practitioners. Mr. Zhu was forced to sit on a stool, perfectly still, with both hands on a knee, both legs pressed together, and back straight from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. As a result, his legs were swollen and numb. He was given only two meals a day.

In June 2002, Mr. Zhu’s forced labor term was up, but he is still detained, well beyond the release date, since he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
