Retired Teacher from Luoyang City, Henan Province Dies as a Result of Persecution
Print  E-mail

Mr. Liu Yupu was a retired teacher from the Zhongxin Company Technical School in Luoyang City, Henan Province. In 1988, he developed cirrhosis of the liver, and his condition worsened in 1993. Over the next several years, he suffered greatly. The doctors were unable to find a cure for him, so they told him to go home and rest. They then advised his family to prepare for his funeral. In 1996, when he was on the verge of death, he was fortunate enough to come across Falun Gong. He diligently practiced the exercises, and followed the principles of Falun Gong. In less than one year, he no longer had any illnesses. He had a rosy complexion, and was energetic again. At over 60 years of age, he could carry a 45-pound bag of flour up to the fourth floor without any difficulty. He often told others, "I am only alive today because of Falun Gong.”

On July 20, 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong began. In March 2000, Liu Yupu went to Beijing to appeal to the government to end the persecution. He brought along an appeal letter, as well as the documents pertaining to his medical history, because he wanted to use his own experience to tell the government the facts about Falun Gong. However, he was arrested and put in administrative detention for 15 days.  Then he was forced to undergo 20-days of forced brainwashing. After that, the Luoyang City authorities listed him as a key target, and sent people to monitor him around his home, and tail him wherever he went.

In November 2000, he went to his hometown to visit his mother who was terminally ill. The police followed him to his hometown. Because they were unable to contact him during his visit there, they instructed the security section chief at his workplace to keep calling him and to ask him to return. Because of this, Mr. Liu had no choice but to return. However, as soon as he arrived home, the police arrested him. The excuse the police used was that someone reported that he did not really go to his hometown but rather distributed information about Falun Gong in neighboring counties. After a six-hour standoff, the police sent Mr. Liu to Jianxi Detention Center. They then ransacked his home. On the sixth day after his arrest, the police admitted to him that they knew he did not pass out Falun Gong information; however, they still instructed his workplace to subject him to 20 days of forced brainwashing.

On November 27, 2003, Mr. Liu was sent for forced brainwashing again. Two people were assigned to watch each Falun Gong practitioner, and practitioners were not allowed to communicate with each other. Every day they were forced to watch videos slandering Falun Gong. The staff knew he used to suffer from liver disease, so, during the 40 days that he was there, they deliberately gave him only spicy foods to eat, causing harm to his liver and entire body. At 11:00 p.m. on April 2, 2004, he died as a result of persecution.
