Description:
Around 6 am on July 4, 2002, Mr. Qu Yongjiu left his house to buy breakfast for his son Qu Yan. The officials from the Liaoyang County Public Security Bureau forcefully arrested him. There was no arrest warrant. Afterward, five policemen broke into Mr. Qu’s house. At the time, only Qu Yao, his 14-year old son, was at home. They ransacked Mr. Qu’s home, then they arrested Qu Yao. The police did not release the teenager until several hours later. He suffered severe mental stress from the incident.
According to sources, the police arrested Qu Yao’s father because they wanted to capture his mother, Ms. Yao Mei. The police kept harassing her because she practices Falun Gong. Because of this, she was forced to leave home. Currently, only Qu Yao is left at home, without anybody to take care of him. He does not know how to cook. Therefore, he often skips meals and only eats whatever is readily available. At the time of his father’s arrest, he was preparing for his final exams. There was much stress from school. What he needed the most was his parents’ support. Yet, he could not even get a good meal. His mother could not come home because she would be arrested if the police saw her.
The police from the Political Security Department in Liaoyang County Public Security Bureau sent Mr. Qu to the Shoushan Detention Center. He was severely tortured there and sentenced to labor reeducation for two and a half years without any legal reason.
