Internally Displaced Persons in Hebei Province

 

Overview

 

Since July 20, 1999, Falun Gong practitioners from Hebei Province have been severely tortured and persecuted because of their belief. The police of Hebei Province arrested, detained, beaten, and fined them. They were also fired from their jobs. Their normal lives were badly harassed, homes ransacked, and even family members threatened. To avoid being tortured further more, dozens of practitioners had to leave their homes and become displaced. Currently, Hebei Province has nearly the largest amount of Falun Gong Practitioners who are homeless. Following are some of them:

 

1.1       Lu Ran Forced to Leave Home After Tortured Two Years

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On December 6, 1999, Lu Ran went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Lu was arrested and sent to the Yudong Police Station where she was detained for 10 days. Then the Department of Education in Chang’an District, Shijiazhuang City refused to offer her a job because she practices Falun Gong.

 

On February 4, 2000, Ms. Lu was arrested on the street and again detained for seventeen days at the Yudong Police Station. During her detention, Ms. Lu was beaten, forced to stand for a long period of time, made to stand outside in cold weather and deprived of the right to sleep for three days and nights, which almost made her mind became unbalanced. In March and April of 2000, the Yudong Police Station and the Yudong Administrative Office detained Ms. Lu twice because she refused to give up Falun Gong.

 

On May 13, 2000, Ms. Lu went to Beijing to appeal again, she was arrested and escorted back to the Yudong Police Station. Ms. Lu lived under supervision for fifteen days and was then sent to the Luancheng County Detention Center, where she was detained for one month. After Ms. Lu released, the Yudong Police Station kept detaining Ms. Lu until she was sent to the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp on July 1, 2000. Ms. Lu was tortured at the labor camp. The police handcuffed, slapped, beat, kicked, and shocked her in there. Ms. Lu was also forced to do more than 10 hours work every day and her parents were not allowed to visit her. Ms. Lu went on a hunger strike to protest the detention, and she was force-fed many times.

 

After Ms. Lu was released from the labor camp, the Yudong Police Station kept harassing her. Ms. Lu had to leave her home. Ms. Lu is wandering about homeless to avoid being detained and tortured again.

 

1.2       Former Governor of Zhengding County Forced to Leave Home

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

Before July 20, 1999, Mr. Shang was the governor of Zhengding County, Hebei Province. After that he was degraded to chairman of the Politics Coordination Committee of Zhengding County because he practiced Falun Gong. In early July 2001, a police informant reported on Mr. Shang, and the police were prepared to arrest him. Knowing that he would be arrested and detained, Mr. Shang had to leave his job and home. Now Mr. Shang has become destitute.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On October 17, 1999, Dang Lanfeng went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Dang was arrested and escorted back to the Shenglibeijie Police Station. Ms. Dang was handcuffed to a tree by policeman Zheng Qihong. On October 20, 1999, policeman Hou Yong sent Ms. Dang to the Xinle Detention Center. On November 3, 1999, she was sentenced to three-year forced-labor and sent to the group 4 of the Shijiazhuang City Labor Camp, because she refused to give up Falun Gong. In the labor camp, Ms. Dang was forced to work from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. Ms. Dang was also beaten and forced to stand for long periods of time. Ms. Dang was released after one year of detention. But the police of the Shenglibeijie Police Station and officials of the Shenglibeijie Administrative Office often went to her home to threaten her and her family members. Ms. Dang had to leave her home to avoid being detained again. Since then, the local police always go to her home during the holidays and force her husband to reveal where she is staying.

1.4       Fan Zhongxin Became Homeless After Her Escape From the Police Station

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On July 22, 1999, Fan Zhongxin went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Fan was arrested and escorted back to the Dongguang County Police Station and fined 500 Yuan RMB. In February 2000, Ms. Fan went to Beijing to appeal for the second time. Ms. Fan was then detained at the Dongguang County Detention Center for forty days and fined 5,000 Yuan RMB. Li Guoying beat Ms. Fan while she was detained. In July 2000, Ms. Fan’s home was ransacked and Ms. Fan was arrested and detained for fifteen days because she refused to give up Falun Gong. On February 14, 2001, several policemen from the Special Case Group of Dongguang County went to ransack Ms. Fan’s barbershop, and then took her to the Dongguang County Police Station. They removed Ms. Fan’s coat, handcuffed her, and left her outside in the cold weather. Ms. Fan managed to escape from the Dongguang County Police Station. Ms. Fan could not return home, as she knew the police would be looking for her. Ms. Fan became destitute.

1.5       A Falun Gong Practitioner Forced to Leave Home and Her Husband Detained

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On July 25, 2001, at around 9:00 a.m. several policemen from the Sanhe City Police Station knocked at this female Falun Gong practitioner’s door. The practitioner found Li Zhixin was among them. She did not open the door, for she knew that they wanted to send her to an anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class. At that time her husband was at home. So the police threatened him to open the door for them. At first her husband refused. At 11:30 a.m., he finally opened the door. The female practitioner had managed to leave her home. The police said that the husband had interrupted their work and detained him at the Sanhe City Detention Center. They have not released this female practitioner’s husband yet. Now the female practitioner became homeless and nobody looks after her two children (12 and 16 years old).

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

In late December 2000, police officers of the Shenzhou City Police Station arrested and detained many Falun Gong practitioners in Shenzhou City. Some practitioners were fined large amounts of money and their homes were ransacked. Falun Gong Practitioner Hui Lin had to leave home to avoid such persecution. Mr. Hui is now forced to wander about on the streets.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On February 4, 2000, Xi Lili was arrested for practicing Falun Gong with other practitioners. Ms. Xi was detained at the Luancheng District Detention Center for fifteen days. In April 2000, the Xinghua Street Police Station extorted 27,000 Yuan RMB from Ms. Xi. In May 2000, while Ms. Xi was teaching, she received a message from Police Officer Bai Yuanji, asking her to go to the Xinghua Street Police Station. Ms. Xi went there and was immediately detained for three days. Ms. Xi went on a hunger strike for three days to protest her detention and was then released. On December 17, 2000, while copying a letter to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong, Ms. Xi was again arrested by the Dongjiao Police Station, and then transferred back to the Xinghua Street Police Station. Ms. Xi managed to escape from the Xinghua Street Police Station. Ms. Xi has not been heard from ever since.

1.8       Song Jianguo Became Homeless Because of Police Torture

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

Because of practicing Falun Gong, Song Jianguo was arrested on April 2, 2001 and tortured by police from the Yanjiao Police Station. Policeman Liu Yu slapped his face, using both the heel of a shoe and his hands. Mr. Song was interrogated and beaten. The Deputy Chief of the Yanjiao Police Station slapped him and used the legs of an iron chair to strike his feet. Mr. Song was also shocked with electric batons. Eventually Mr. Song escaped from the Police Station. Now, Mr. Song must stay away from his home to avoid further persecution.

1.9       Zhang Yin Left Home to Avoid Torture and Detention

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

In July 1999, Zhang Yin was detained for seven days at the Yudong Police Station because he practices Falun Gong. After that he was arrested and detained several more times at the Yudong Police Station. Then he was detained for seven days at the No. 5 Branch of the Metallurgy and Construction Company, fired from his job and forced to quit the Chinese Communist Party by his company. In October 2000, Mr. Zhang wrote to the heads of his company about his experience of practicing Falun Gong. Then he was sent to the Huanghedadao Police Station where he was detained for four days. In November 2000, Mr. Zhang’s company sent him to a labor camp. On the way there Mr. Zhang escaped. Mr. Zhang’s current whereabouts are unknown.

 

In December 2000, Mr. Zhang’s 16-year-old son Zhang Haibin went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong and was arrested. On December 27, he was identified by the principal Zhu of his school and escorted back to the Yudong Police Station. In January 2001, he was sent to the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp.

 

Mr. Zhang wrote seven appealing letters to the government, asking for his son’s release. So the staff of his company and the police of the Yudong Police Station tried to find him everywhere. They went to his relatives and friends’ home and followed his wife everyday.

1.10  Fan Gang Forced to Leave Home Due to the Persecution of Falun Gong

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

In February 2000, Fan Gang and his wife went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. They were arrested and detained at the Hebei Province Liaison Office in Beijing, this couple was forced to pay 440 Yuan RMB for accommodations. On the next day, the couple was escorted back and was detained fifty days. Prisoners and guards in the detention center beat Mr. Fan. When Mr. Fan was released, they extorted 2,000 Yuan RMB for a transportation fee, 3,000 Yuan RMB for bail, and 600 Yuan RMB for food and luggage fees; the officials extorted from his wife 1,000 Yuan RMB for a transportation fee and 5,000 Yuan RMB for bail. Their family members were forced to sign a guarantee for their release.

 

In February 2001, the local police tried to arrest Mr. Fan again. Mr. Fan was forced to quit his job, leave his home and wander about to avoid further persecution. Moreover, the police created difficulties for his family members; they extorted a large amount of money from them and threatened to arrest them.

On October 24, 1999, Luo Zhihui went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Luo was arrested and detained at the Tiananmen Police Station. During her detention, Ms. Luo was handcuffed from the back, interrogated and tortured by forcing to stand in a very painful position until her legs trembled and her chest felt like it would explode. On the evening of October 26, 1999, Ms. Luo was sent to the Beijing West Station Detention Center where the policeman slammed and smashed her in the face until she passed out. After fifteen days of detention, Ms. Luo was escorted back to her hometown, and detained at the Langfang Detention Center in Hebei Province.

 

During Ms. Luo’s detention, Ms. Luo’s husband was forced to pay a total of approximately 6,000 Yuan RMB to the Youyi Street Police Station, the Qiaoxi District, Qiaoxi Grain Station manager Liu and Human Resource manager Zhou, the Youyi Street Administrative Office, Deputy Office and her work unit. Ms. Luo was sent back to the Youyi Street Police Station and detained for another forty days because she refused to give up Falun Gong. During her detention at the Youyi Street Police Station, Ms. Luo had been handcuffed to a chair for twenty days, even when she went to the bathroom. Endless days of torture made her legs swell to twice their normal size. Ms. Luo could not squat down or take off her pants. At the end of the year 2000, her husband had to pay 4,000 Yuan RMB to have her released. After that Ms. Luo was living under 24-hour surveillance at home.

 

During March 2000, Ms. Luo was detained and tortured in a mental hospital. Because of the constant torture, Ms. Luo went again to Beijing by bike on May 16, 2000 to appeal to the government to stop its persecution of Falun Gong. Gao Zhenqiang and others from Youyi Street Police Station detained her for another forty-one days. During the detention, Ms. Luo was often denied food and hung up continuously for 30-40 hours. On June 30, 2000, Ms. Luo was sent to the Shijiazhuang City No.4 Labor Camp.

 

On November 20, 2000, after Ms. Luo was released from the labor camp, once again her freedom was restricted and was forced to live under surveillance. Zhang Gonglan from the Youyi Street Administrative Office made phone calls to threaten Ms. Luo. Secretary Li from Deputy Office tried to restrain Ms. Luo activities by ordering her to call him every time she left her house. These harassments, tracking, and persecution day after day, made it impossible for Ms. Luo to eat and sleep well. There was no way to stay out of their monitoring and control, which made her physically and mentally exhausted. Ms. Luo’s mind was at the edge of collapse. Ms. Luo decided to leave her home to avoid such severe torture and persecution. Now Ms. Luo is homeless and is wandering about.

Around July 20, 2000, Wang Lizhi was arrested and detained at the Xijiao Police

Station, Shijiazhuang City because Wang distributed Falun Gong flyers. On October 4, 2000, at around 10:00 p.m., Wang was taken to the Xijiao Administrative Office and detained there for four days. On December 6, 2000, Wang was again detained at the Xijiao Police Station because Wang refused to give up Falun Gong. The next day Wang began a hunger strike to protest the detention. Nine days after that, Wang’s family bailed Wang out. But Wang was still threatened by the police at home. To avoid being detained and tortured again, Wang had to leave home. Wang’s two daughters also could not stay at home safely because the police kept threatening them.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

In July 1999, Wang Shucun went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Therefore Ms. Wang was arrested and detained at the Xijiao Police Station, Shijiazhuang City. During her detention, Ms. Wang was forced to renounce Falun Gong. After released, on May 13, 2000, Ms. Wang again went to Beijing to appeal, Ms. Wang was arrested and detained at the Xijiao Police Station for one month. Her home was ransacked and her family members were threatened. Ms. Wang was tortured while detained. In the evening of May 14, 2000, the police station divided all officers and trainees into 4 groups (3-4 people per group). Every group tortured one practitioner. They hit practitioners’ faces with shoes, whipped them with belts, and stabbed them with pins. Other tortures included handcuffing practitioners’ hands to the back while forcing them to bend forward, beating them with wooden and rubber nightsticks, piercing their fingers with needles and steel pen tips, stabbing pins through their eyelids and ears, burning their hands with cigarettes etc. This torture continued for six hours. Ms. Wang had swelling and bruises on her eyes, face and back. To this day, Ms. Wang still has unhealed injuries in her hip and legs. After she was released, Ms. Wang knew she could be arrested, detained, and tortured again at any time. So Ms. Wang left her home and now she is wandering about.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On July 20, 1999, Zhang Jinying went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Therefore Ms. Zhang was arrested and detained at an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class in Baoding City. After released, on October 28, 1999, Ms. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal the second time, she was arrested and escorted back to the Hepingli Police Station in Baoding City and detained for 15 days. On January 1, 2000, Ms. Zhang went to Beijing the third time. Ms. Wang was arrested and beaten by the Tiananmen Square Police, and then sent to the Qianmen Police Station. When she was escorted back to the Hepingli Police Station in Baoding City, police officer Tian Jing handcuffed her for a night and beat and kicked her while he interrogated her. Ms. Zhang was detained for eighteen days this time. In late January 2000, she went to the Tiananmen Square again with other Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zhang was beaten even worse by the Tiananmen Square Police, and was sent to the Qianmen Police Station again. A policeman there slapped her in the face and then escorted her to Baoding City. On February 1, 2000, Ms. Zhang went to Tiananmen Square the fifth time, she was arrested and sent to the Qianmen Police Station. Her head was injured after being hit with a table leg by a policeman. Ms. Zhang bled for a long time.

 

On February 16, 2000, Ms. Zhang went again to the Tiananmen Square with other Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zhang was arrested but managed to escape. On February 26, 2000, Ms. Zhang went to Beijing again, she was arrested and escorted back to the Baoding City Detention Center and detained for seventy-five days. On May 12, 2000, she was sent to the Shijiazhuang City Detention Center and detained for more than one month because she refused to give up Falun Gong. She was also beaten there. On July 30, 2000, Ms. Zhang was sent to the Baoding City Labor Camp and detained at an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class for forty-five days. Ms. Zhang was tortured during the detention. For fifteen days, the police detained Ms. Zhang in a small isolated cell which was extremely dirty. They also handcuffed Ms. Zhang 24 hours a day to the bed. At that time she had been on a hunger strike for over twenty days to protest her detention. Ms. Zhang was force-fed corn porridge with lots of salt and was not allowed to drink water. Once Doctor Song of the labor camp used a very thick tube to force-feed Ms. Zhang. He pulled her hair to lift her body up and tried to stick the tube into her nose so many times that her nose bled profusely and she lost consciousness.

 

When Ms. Zhang woke up, her body shook heavily and she could not walk or open her eyes, her hands and arms were swollen. The doctors and police usually beat her in the chest and stomach when force-feeding her. On November 30, 2000, Ms. Zhang was sent to the Gaoyang Labor Camp. During her detention, Ms. Zhang was shocked with electric baton on her legs, feet, and mouth for more than one hour while being hung up. After the torture, her skin was pierced and the bones of her toes and feet could be seen.. Then Ms. Zhang was detained in an isolated cell for nearly two months. It was very cold in the cell and there was no sunshine.

 

One night in January 2001, Ms. Zhang was handcuffed, hung up, and shocked with electric baton by more than ten policemen. Ms. Zhang was not able to control the shaking of her body. Her feet and mouth became swollen and there is a smell of burnt fresh. Ms. Zhang was tortured like this for a few hours and then detained individually in a small cell. A few days later Ms. Zhang was handcuffed and forced to squat for more than twenty hours in a very cold abandoned room. This made her hands, feet and legs swell. Her fingers had no feeling and she could not wear her shoes or walk. On April 17, 2001, Ms. Zhang asked for three days off to attend the traditional 100-day anniversary after her father’s death. Ms. Zhang managed to escape during this release. Now Ms. Zhang is wandering about in the street.

Police taped their phone and hired street thugs to watch them. On August 23, 2001, Mr. Ma was arrested by the Anguo City Police Station, and detained at a detention center. Ms. Li took a chance and left home. Mr. Ma was released when his health deteriorated in the detention center. Mr. Ma left home to avoid more persecution. Both of them are homeless now. Right now their elderly relatives and children are left home uncared for.

On July 20, 1999, the Huanghua City Police Station arrested Liu Donglin at home because he believed in Falun Gong. Mr. Liu was detained for twenty-three days and fined RMB 5,000 Yuan. In October 2000, Mr. Liu went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Therefore Mr. Liu was sentenced to three-year forced labor in a labor camp. Mr. Liu was refused by the labor camp because he failed the physical exam. Later, the Huanghua City Police Station detained Mr. Liu for four months, and fined him RMB 5,000 Yuan as bail. In July 2001, Mr. Liu was arrested for a day and a night by the Huanghua City Police Station for attending a Falun Gong experience-sharing meeting; Mr. Liu was detained but was released because of health problems. Back home, because Mr. Liu kept practicing Falun Gong, the Huanghua City Police Station wanted to detain him again. To avoid more persecution, Mr. Liu left home and is now homeless.

In June 2001, Yang Jie was arrested and detained because she was found sending Falun Gong flyers into a detention center. At 9 p.m., July 11, 2001, the Huanghua Developing District Police Station and the Chengguan Police Station took her and her husband Li Zhaochen to Li Zhaochen’s workplace to “have a meeting”. Ms. Yang and her husband were detained for one night. The next day Ms. Yang and her husband were sent to the Public Security Bureau. Ms. Yang was first detained for fifteen days and then for three months because she refused to give up Falun Gong. Ms. Yang’s family was extorted 5,000 Yuan RMB. Ms. Yang was sent to an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class. Ms. Yang finally escaped from the class and became homeless.

On July 24, 1999, Ma Ying was arrested for going to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. After being arrested and escorted back to Xianyu Town, Ms. Ma was beaten by the Chief of the Xianyu Town Police Station Li Jinfu for half a day and was detained for seven days and charged 230 Yuan RMB for meals. In September 1999, Ms. Ma and her husband went to Beijing to appeal again. Wang Fan and his followers could not find them and turned to Ms. Ma’s mother. Ms. Ma’s mother was beaten. Her body was covered with wounds and bruises and her eyes were so swollen that she could not open them. Ms. Ma’s mother lay on the ground unconscious for two days. Half a year later, pus still drained from her wounds. After Ms. Ma was back from Beijing, over the following months Ms. Ma was detained at the village government several times. Ms. Ma was detained at an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class, and write to denounce Falun Gong against her will. In 2000, Ms. Ma was detained for half a year because she distributed Falun Gong flyers. To avoid more persecution, Ms. Ma had to leave home and wander about.

On September 13, 1999, Mi Xiaozheng went to the National Grievance Bureau in Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Ms. Mi was arrested and handed over to the Chongqing Municipal Government Resident Office. After Ms. Mi was escorted back to the Architecture and Urban Planning College, she was sent to an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class for a month. Her scholarship was also suspended. On September 30, 2000, the authorities of the college detained Ms. Mi to at an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class, where she had to pay 1,600 Yuan RMB for accommodations because she refused to give up Falun Gong. Ms. Mi went on a hunger strike to protest the detention and was later released. Ms. Mi was again suspended from school. In December 2000, Ms. Mi went to the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, where she unfurled a banner supporting Falun Gong. Ms. Mi was arrested and beaten by the Tiananmen Square Police. Ms. Mi was then sent to the Beijing Qianmen Public Security Neighborhood Office, where she was tortured further before being sent to the Chongwen District Detention Center. After released, on January 1, 2000, Ms. Mi went to the Tiananmen Square again, where the police beat her into a coma. Ms. Mi was sent to the Mentougou Detention Center. Ms. Mi was released after she went on a hunger strike to protest the detention for eleven days. Ms. Mi is homeless and her current whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Chen therefore was detained at the Boye County Detention Center for ten days and fined 250 Yuan RMB. On October 22, 1999, authorities of Boling Town and Boye County took Ms. Chen by force to the Boye Town Government building and beat her because she refused to give up Falun Gong. Then they detained Ms. Chen at the Boye County Detention Center for fifteen days and fined her 400 Yuan RMB. On September 21, 2000, Ms. Chen was detained at the Boye County Police Station where she was detained for six days and fined 1,600 Yuan RMB. On June 1 and June 3, 2001, the chiefs of the Boye County Police Station and the Nanbaisha Village Government went to Ms. Chen’s home several times to force her to renounce Falun Gong. On June 4, 2001, Ms. Chen left home in order to avoid the upcoming torture. Many policemen went to her home, trying to find her. They forced her husband Huo Shimin to renounce Falun Gong, which made Mr. Huo leave home too.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On December 18, 1999, Wang Pingjun’s son and daughter went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. Therefore the police from the 610 Office of Li County, Hebei Province arrested and detained Mr. Wang for thirty-seven days at the Li County Detention Center. They wanted to prove that Mr. Wang was the organizer of his children’s appeal. In May 2001, Mr. Wang’s employer stopped paying him his salary. On June 9, 2001, Mr. Wang was arrested and taken to an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class. Mr. Wang escaped from the class in late June and has wandered on the streets ever since. Mr. Wang was made homeless.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On December 7, 1999, Wang Xianghui went to Beijing to appeal the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. Therefore Mr. Wang was then detained at the Li County Detention Center for thirty-seven days. During his detention, Mr. Wang was beaten by the police many times and was forced to stand on a cold floor without any clothing (the temperature was about -16C). The 610 Office of Li County forced Mr. Wang to pay 15,000 Yuan RMB before he was released. From February 18 to March 1, 2001, Mr. Wang was detained by his employer because he refused to give up Falun Gong.

 

On March 9, 2001, policemen of the Police Station of the Department of Electricity took Mr. Wang to the Li County Detention Center and detained him for thirteen days. On April 29, 2001, Mr. Wang was sent to an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class set up by the 610 Office in Li County. During the detention, Mr. Wang was on a hunger strike for five days to protest the detention. On May 3, 2001, Mr. Wang escaped from the class. Since then Mr. Wang has been wandering around homeless. After Mr. Wang’s escape, his wife was detained by her employer for a week.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

The Yudong Police Station officers had threatened Fan Xiuyun’s son many times, forcing him to cooperate with them in their persecution of his mother Ms. Fan. They threatened to take away his job and wages. Hao Zhiwenbeat and abused Ms. Fan many times because Ms. Fan refused to give up Falun Gong. Once, the authorities sent Ms. Fan into a mental hospital and tortured her there for up to a month.

 

On January 24 of the 2001, the Yudong Street Administrative Office forced Ms. Fan and several other Falun Gong practitioners to attend an Anti-Falun Gong Brainwashing Class. Ms. Fan, however, escaped from the office while Niu Junqian was on duty.

 

At 2:00 p.m. on July 26, 2001, Niu Junqian saw Ms. Fan posting Falun Gong flyers along the street. Niu immediately caught Ms. Fan, intending to send her to the Yudong Police Station; but Ms. Fan escaped. Niu called the Yudong Police Station and ordered a search of Ms. Fan’s home without a warrant. Around 4:00 p.m. that day, the Yudong Police Station confiscated two bags of Falun Gong books and some other Dafa materials from Ms. Fan’s home. Police searched for Ms. Fan around in her friends’ and relatives’ places. Moreover, they threatened Ms. Fan’s son again to cooperate with them and find her. Ms. Fan was forced to become homeless and her whereabouts are now unknown.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

On August 10, 2001, policeman Tan Jun led seven policemen sneak into Falun Gong practitioner Han Wenying’s home when the door was not locked. They forcibly put Ms. Han into a police car and confiscated her Falun Gong materials. This was the third time they ransacked her home. They body-searched Ms Han and attempted to send her to a labor camp. As her blood pressure was found to be very high, the labor camp dared not accept her. After Ms. Han returned home, the officials of the Yucai Street Police Station asked her to report to them the next day. During the night, Ms. Han left her home. Ms. Han currently whereabouts are unknown.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

In November 1999, Ma Guifeng was detained at the Fucheng County Detention Center for more than one month for peacefully appealing to the Jing County Police Station to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Ma was transferred and detained at the Jing County Detention Center for more than two months. Mr. Ma was then sentenced to one-year forced labor with two-year of probation, and was also fined a large sum of money. Mr Ma had to leave his home to avoid more persecution and became homeless.

On January 20, 2001, the Qiaodong Police Station launched a mass arrest of local Falun Gong Practitioners. Arrested practitioners either were detained at the Dongfeng Detention Center or sent to labor camps. Facing the harsh pressure of being arrested, Yang Xiaojie and his wife could not return to their home and became homeless.

Mr. Shao is unable to return home. Otherwise Mr. Shao would face persecution.

On July 2, 2001, Wei County policemen ransacked Gong Hua’s home because they suspected that she had Falun Gong materials. They also wanted to arrest Ms. Gong but she managed to escape. After that, Ms. Gong could not return home because she knew that the police would go back to her home again to arrest her. Currently, Ms. Gong is wandering about homeless. On July 19, 2001 the police broke into Gong Hua’s home, intending to arrest her.

A Brief Report of the Incident:

 

In early June 2001, Fan Qingzhou was deceived by Yuan Zengguo, Jia Qifang, and the Secretary of the Zhouzhuang Administrative Office to go to a hotel in Shahe City. In the hotel, they threatened him that if he did not write a statement to stop practicing Falun Gong and go to a TV show to renounce Falun Gong he would be sent to a detention center. Mr. Fan was therefore forced to leave home to avoid further persecution.
