Mr. Jin and his wife, Ms. Wei owns a restaurant in Botou City, Hebei Province. On April 8, 2004, after they explained the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong to the customers at their restaurant, a customer reported them to the police. Later, seven police officers came and ransacked the restaurant. They took away many Falun Gong books and materials, and arrested Mr. Jin and his wife.
The couple was detained at the Botou Detention Center. Mr. Jin has been handcuffed and shackled for the entire duration of his detention. He and his wife were force-fed after they started a hunger strike to protest their illegal detention. Since Mr. Jin did not cooperate, the police brutally beat him. As a result, his legs were broken, two of his ribs were broken, his right eardrum was ruptured and dripped yellow pus, and his jaw became dislocated. He has not been able to take care of himself. His wife, Ms. Wei, was also beaten, and has bruises all over her body.
When one of Mr. Jin’s relatives visited him, he found that Mr. Jin was on the verge of death.
We are very concerned about Mr. Jin’s life and hereby request an urgent action by the United Nations to safeguard the life of Mr. Jin.

Mr. Jin Jiang and his wife, Ms. Wei Limei, both in their 30’s, are residents of Botou City, Hebei Province. Their hometown is Suizhong County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province. They are restaurant owners.
