Print  E-mail

Ms. Yang Fenglian, female, is a teacher at the Mining Engineering College in Handan City, Hebei Province. On October 1, 2000, Ms. Yang and her 16-year-old daughter were arrested in Beijing for appealing to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. They were escorted back to Handan City and detained in the Handan City Second Detention Center. At the end of 2000, Ms. Yang was sentenced to one year of forced labor, and sent to the Shijiazhuang Labor Camp in Hebei Province, where she was beaten, shocked with electric batons, handcuffed, hung up in the air, and deprived of sleep. Her daughter was handcuffed and fitted with heavy shackles. She was shocked four times throughout her entire body with high voltage electric batons. Two of those times she was stripped completely naked. After nine months of detention, her family members were forced to pay 3,000 Yuan to bail her out. After returning home she was expelled from her school. Ms. Yang was released after one year. After her release the officials at her college monitored her every day. Ms. Yang’s husband was not allowed to work, and the head of his work unit tried to force him to divorce her.

On November 2, 2002, 30 policemen from the Kaiyuan Police Station and the Hanshan Police Station arrested Ms. Yang and her daughter at their home, and took them to the Hanshan Police Station. The Chief of the Hanshan Police Station, Liu Wenming, ordered the Chief of the Kaiyuan Police Station, Wang Lin, and other policemen to shock Ms. Yang simultaneously with electric batons in an attempt to have her denounce her practice. Her head was badly swollen and her arms were covered with blisters. She was sent to the Handan City Second Detention Center, where she developed arrhythmia and discharged blood in her stool every day. Her weight dropped from 140 lbs to 90 lbs. After ten months of detention and being forced to pay 2,000 Yuan in bail, she was released. Ms. Yang’s daughter was released after three months and a payment of 10,000 Yuan in bail. When she returned home she was expelled from her school again.

On September 27, 2003, after she had been home for one month, the College’s Secretary of the Party Committee, Li Wanqing, Chief Li Kuiliang, the Department Secretary of the Party Committee, Jiang Bianliang, Chief of the Security Department, Mao Ruixin, and others, accosted Ms. Yang while she was on the way to the supermarket, and forcibly sent her to the Xihuanlu Brainwashing Center. She went on a hunger strike to protest the detention. After she was force-fed, she vomited blood and lost conscious several times. The 610 Office ordered her to be secretly transferred to Shijiazhuang City. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
