Mr. Wang Sili, male, 70, is a retired government official from Beijing. Since July 20, 1999, the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] has kidnapped him from his home several times and taken him to a brainwashing class. In 2002, he was abducted to Unit 3 of the Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing. The police tried to force him to give up his belief in Falun Gong by abusing him physically and depriving him of sleep for long periods of time. On November 19, 2002, Wang Sili was sent to the physical training team for two months because he did not stand in line according to the unreasonable requirements of the police. As punishment, this seventy-year-old man was forced by policeman Zhao Jiang to squat outdoors for an extended period of time. As a result of sleeping on a crowded and cold floor every night, the elderly man developed a persistent cough. Mr. Wang explained his situation in writing to Zheng Zhenyuan, director of the Forced Labor Re-education Bureau, but did not receive any reply. Starting on December 16, Mr. Wang had no choice but to go on a hunger strike to protest the brutal treatment he is suffering at the hands of the police. |
