Description:
On September 16, 1999, the police ransacked Mr. Wang Guihe’s home and arrested him,his mother Ms. Li Guozhen, his wife Ms. Zhong Yu, and his daughter Ms. Wang Yuli because they are Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Li and Ms. Wang were released the next day, butMs. Zhong was detained for more than 20 days. When detained, Ms. Zhong was locked up with dozens of other Falun Gong practitioners. The police did not only beat them, but also poured urine on them. Mr. Wang was detained in the Nanchang Labor Camp for three months before being sentenced to one year of forced labor. During his time at the labor camp, he was brutally tortured and forced to work eighteen hours of hard labor every day.
On December 16, 2000, Mr. Wang’s family including his mother, his wife, his daughter, and his elder brother, Mr. Wang Yuanhe went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. As a result, they were all arrested and beaten. After they were sent back home, Ms. Wang Yuli and her grandmother, who was 83 years old at the time, were arrested again and detained in the Nanchang No. 27 North Road Detention Center. The police told their family members that they would be held for three months, and that they would not be set free if they could not pay the 40,000 Yuan fine. Later, Zhong Yu, Mr. Wang Guihe’s wife, was also sent to a labor camp. |
