Description:

In September 2002,  Lhasa City police detained twelve Falun Gong practitioners. These practitioners came from several different provinces in China, including Liaoning and Guangdong Provinces. They left their hometowns to escape from the persecutions in their hometowns, and traveled far to Lhasa to seek for a safe stay. To protest the arbitrary detention, they had gone on a hunger strike, and are in critical conditions. Among them are two children, one at the age of 9 years and the other 14 years.

All of the practitioners detained in Lhasa had suffered persecution before. In August 1999, Ms. Wang Yanling was detained by police for 15 days for distributing Falun Gong flyers. In October 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal to the government to end its persecution of Falun Gong. As a result, she was arrested and detained for over two months. In January 2000, Ms. Wang was again arrested for distributing Falun Gong flyers and was tortured severely by the police. She later escaped from the detention center, and had to run away from her hometown with her husband, Mr. Zhang Jianmin, and their fourteen-years-old son.

Ms. Zhu Shuyuan was responsible for setting up a printer site for making and distributing Falun Gong flyers in the northern region of Liaoning Province. The police had sought after this site for a long time. Eventually, when this site was exposed, Ms. Zhu  had to run away from her hometown to avoid the arrest.

Mr. Wang Jiang and other practitioners had been making Falun Gong flyers in his home. In June 2001, the local police spotted his home as a “station of Falun Gong materials: and sought for Mr. Wang. Mr. Wang had to escape from home with his wife, Ms. Yu Hua, along  with their 9-year-old son,

Ms. Lu Jianhua had been detained and tortured in Masanjia Labor Camp, which is notorious for its brutal torture on Falun Gong practitioners. After her release, she was forced to become homeless in order to avoid being detained again since she was on the wanted list kept by local police.
