Hu Zhiming, male, 28, from Yujia village in the Yuanbao District of Dan Dong, Liaoning Province, military personnel from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, director of the computer lab of the Beijing Air Force Research Institute of Training Equipment.
Description:
In March 2000, under the pressure from Chinese president Jiang Zemin, the PLA Air Force ordered all its units to put Falun Gong practitioners under house arrest and force them to give up Falun Gong. Upon learning of the order, Mr. Hu Zhiming hid in the home of another Falun Gong practitioner in Wenquan Garden, Changping District in order to avoid detention. However, he was tracked down by secret agents and was arrested and detained incommunicado for the next two months at the Xishan Air Force Base in Beijing. There he was confined to a room 24 hours a day and guarded with armed soldiers. Personnel from the Air Force constantly threatened and tried to force Mr. Hu to give up Falun Gong practice, but he refused. As a punishment, he was discharged from military service, stripped of his job, and escorted back to his hometown by armed soldiers.
In May 2000 Mr. Hu Zhiming left his hometown and returned to Beijing to find a new job. To track him down for further persecution, the local government of his hometown continuously sent people to his home and threatened his parents, demanding to know his whereabouts in Beijing.
In September 2000, Hu Zhiming was arrested in Shanghai for meeting with other Falun Gong practitioners. He has been in detention ever since. His family could not was not notified of his arrest until November 2000. His family is not allowed to contact him, and no one knows his current condition.
