A Couple Repeatedly Detained, Their Son Became Homeless

Mr. Guo Yunqing, male, born on January 22, 1957, is an employee of the Jilin Provincial Metal Construction Company, Jilin City, Jilin Province.  His wife, Ms. Du Hongfa, born in 1962, is also an employee of the Jilin Provincial Metal Construction Company.  Mr. Guo and Ms. Du were detained several times for went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.

In the middle of December 1999, Mr. Guo was arrested again by the Jilin City Police, and detained at No. 1 Detention Center of Jilin City for four months. He was released in March 2000. On September 26, 2000, Mr. Guo went to Beijing to appeal again. On the morning of October 1, 2002, at around 8 a.m.,  Mr. Guo went to Tiananmen Square, many policemen began beating him. His head and body bled and he passed out on the spot. He was carried to the Qianmen Police Station in Beijing. Afraid that he might die, the police moved him, while he was still unconscious, to an out of the way place and left him there for the night.

On October 28, 2000, the Jilin City police arrested Mr. Guo again. He was severely tortured and then sent to the No. 3 Detention Center.  After 14 days of detention, Mr. Guo was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the Jilin Labor Camp. He was transferred to the Liaoyuan Labor Camp on March 27, 2000, then released on October 26, 2001. During his time at the two labor camps, Mr. Guo was brainwashed and suffered inhumane torture.

In January 2000, Ms. Du was detained for 10 days. In February 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested in the Fushun Train Station. She was  sentenced to one year of forced labor at Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp of Changchun City. She was forced to attend the brainwashing program and she endured numerous sessions of torture. Her term was extended for 10 months before she was released. In May 2002, the police from Changyi District Police Station arrested Ms. Du again. She was beaten, and  sentenced to two years of forced labor at Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp. Ms. Du is still detained there.

The police of Jilin City have also harassed Mr. Guo and Ms. Du’s 12-year-old son. He has dropped out of school and has been forced to leave his home to avoid further persecution.
