Description:
In November 1999, Mr. Chen Gang went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. He was escorted back to Tianshui City and detained for 15 days. In January 2000, the chief of the Politics and Law Committee of Tianshui City detained him for one month and then sent him to the Ping’antai Labor Camp in Lanzhou City for one year of forced labor. While in the Lanzhou labor camp, Mr. Chen suffered severe tortures. The police bounded his arms and legs, sealed his mouth and nose, and then shoved him under a small bed board before stomping on it. He almost died from suffocation. He was released in March 2001. The police did not allow him to go back to work and the work unit stopped his salary. The police often went to his residence to harass him, therefore, he was forced to live on the streets and become homeless.
In April 2002, the Lanzhou police again arrested Mr. Chen, brutally beat and tortured him. Currently, Mr. Chen is detained in the Luergou Detention Center, Tianshui City. He is in critical condition.
