A brief report of the incident:

On September 14, 2001, Yu Xiuling was arrested by police from the Longcheng District Public Security Sub-Bureau in Chaoyang City. She was then detained in Shijiazi Detention Center. After the sixth day of the detention, Yu was sent to the Longcheng District Public Security Sub-Bureau.

On September 19, 2001, Ms. Yu was continuously beaten from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. by Officers Huang and Sun from the political security department. During the entire time she was handcuffed to a heater and surrounded by policemen. After 13 hours of torture, Officers Huang and Sun threw Yu Xiuling out of the 4th floor window while she was still alive. Yu Xiuling died from the impact. Yu’s husband found that her arms were broken and her buttocks were black and blue at the time of her death. The body of Yu was hastily sent for cremation at midnight of the same evening.
