Ms. Li Xiufen, female, was in her 60's and worked as a teacher in Nahe County, Heilongjiang Province prior to her retirement. Her whole family practiced Falun Gong. Her son Mr. Xu Xiangdong was a Senior Engineer in the Daqing City Development District. He had been illegally sentenced to twelve years in prison because he would not denounce his belief in Falun Gong.  Mr. Xu's wife, Cui Xiaojuan, 40, was a teacher at the People's Police School in Daqing City. She went to Beijing to appeal to the government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. On December 30, 1999, Ms Cui was arrested and sent to a detention center. She was died while in detention.  Mr. Xu was in shackles and handcuffs in the crematorium when he saw his wife for the last time.
Ms. Li moved to Daqing City to take care of her grandson, who had no one to care for him since both his parents had been arrested. However, the local police constantly harassed her. Recently, she went to Harbin City to visit her son, who was in solitary confinement at the time. When she saw him he looked completely deformed; he was just skin and bones. Ms. Li was extremely shocked and deeply grieved. After she returned home, the police continued to harass and persecute her. Under the continuous pressure and harassments, Ms. Li passed away on September 9, 2003.
