Ms. Li Yuling, female, resident of Beijing. Police from the Dongcheng District Police Station in Beijing arrested Ms. Li Yuling around 3 p.m. on June 25, 2003, while she was distributing materials clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. She was then taken to the Heping Hotel, where police pressured her to reveal the source of her materials, and the names of other Falun Gong practitioners. Because Ms. Li refused to turn in any other practitioners, the police assaulted and tortured her for the next 24 hours. To protest the torture, Ms. Li Yuling went on a hunger strike during which her torture continued around the clock. It only stopped  nine days later, at 5:00 a.m. on July 4, 2003, when Ms. Li died.

When Ms. Li's family received her death notice from the police, they went to the Longfusi Hospital where her body was being held. The left side of her face was swollen and bruised. The sides of her ribs were also black and blue. The police did not allow her family a closer inspection of the body. They threatened her family not to tell anyone that they tortured Ms. Lí was tortured to death.
