At 10 a.m. on June 16, 2003, 27-year-old practitioner Mr. Ji Songhai from Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province was arrested by local police, at his home, as a result of his practicing Falun Gong. During his interrogation, the police used brutal methods to torture him in an attempt to force from him a false confession. By 4 p.m. on the following day, Mr. Ji was tortured to death. The official explanation for his death was suicide, though two versions were offered by 610 office police officers involved in the case, who were Li Hongbo, Zhao Jingfang, and another police officer surnamed Du. The first was that he jumped from a 3rd story window, which was later changed to his jumping from a 7th story window.
At the strong request of Mr. Ji's family, police allowed relatives to view his body. His head and the rest of his body were covered in bandages. After undoing the bandages, the relatives were shocked by the fact that his face and back were purple, the left eye swollen and bloody. His ankles were wounded and the skin on his toes and arms scarred and torn, consistent as torture. After further examining the body, family members found no fractures, which such a high fall would have caused. When the family requested a coroner's report, they were flatly refused 610 Office police. type=Case, Death; location=Heilongjiang, Shuangyashan; |
