In April 2000 Ms.Wang Xiulan, 57, female, from Zhiguo Street, Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province, went to the Chengxu Park to practice the Falun Dafa exercises. Ms. Wang was arrested and sent to the psychological brainwashing class.
While in the brainwashing class, Ms. Wang had to sleep on the cold cement floor without any blankets. Dozens of Falun Gong practitioners were crammed in one small cell; all were prohibited from using the restroom. Ms. Wang was given only one small steamed bun and a bowl of salt-water each day. Ms. Wang went on a hunger strike to protest the ill-treatment. After several days of being on hunger strike, Ms. Wang fell seriously ill. After extorting 500 Yuan from Ms. Wang’s family, the authorities allowed her to go home.
On December 18, 2000, Ms. Wang went to Tiananmen Square, Beijing with her husband to appeal to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. In Tiananmen Square, she displayed a Falun Gong banner and was arrested.
On January 24, 2001, she was sent to the Gu'an County Detention Center in Hebei Province. The police there forced her to sleep on the cold, damp cement floor at night. There were neither bed coverings nor any heating. It was so cold that she could not sleep. The police attempted various torture methods to make Ms. Wang to renounce her belief in Falun Gong. Several days later, the police transferred her to the Langfang Prison in Tianjin City.
By the end of February, Ms. Wang had edema all over her body and she had difficulty breathing as a result of the torture she had endured. In order to avoid responsibility, the police extorted Ms. Wang’s some money and released her.
In early March 2001, she returned to Shuangcheng City, her hometown. Her feet were so swollen that she could not walk or even put on shoes. Her belly had edema, and she had difficulty breathing. Ms. Wang died on March 17, despite her family spending between 3,000 and 4,000 Yuan to cure her. The local authorities intimidated Ms. Wang’s relatives to not reveal the true story. It was not until two years after her death did the facts about Ms. Wang Xiulan’s death become known.
