In February, 2002, Ms. Tang Fafen, 33, resident of Group Four, Village Three, Town of Mengyang, Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province was arrested from her home and taken to the Mengyang Town Government in Sichuan Province because she believes in Falun Gong. She was detained for over four months in Mengyang. During her detention, she was suffering all kinds of torture because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. Later, she managed to escape from the government building after approximately 4 months of detention. Her name was added to the wanted list of the Pengzhou City National Security Division, Mengyang Town government and Mengyang Town Police Station.

On October 7, 2002 she was arrested again while distributing Falun Gong materials in Zhongjiang County, Sichuan Province. She was taken back to Mengyang Town government and further tortured for practicing Falun Gong. After sustaining torture that resulted in cuts and bruises covering her body, Ms. Tang was sent to the Pengzhou City Psychological Brainwashing Center, she was detained there until March 3, 2003.
On March 3, 2003, Ms. Tang was sentenced to two years of forced labor at the Nanmusi Female Labor Camp in Zizhong County, Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province. After being detained in the labour camp for approximately 38 days, Ms. Tang was almost dead from torture. To avoid totake responsibility in the event of her death, the labor camp authorities sent her back to the Mengyang Town government, but the local government would not accept her due to her near death condition and sent her back to the Nanmusi Female Labor Camp. The labor camp again sent Ms. Tang back to the local government. This time, the Mengyang Town government sent Ms. Tang to her family. Two days later, at 5 o'clock on April 12, 2003, Tang Fafen died from the extensive torture received at the labor camp.
