Ms. Zhang Guizhi, female, 47 years old, resident of Liujiawopu Village, Xinmin Town, Taihe District, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province.

Ms. Zhang Guizhi was arrested for practicing Falun Gong in August 2001 by the Xiaolingzi Airport Police Station. Two months later she was sentenced to 2 years of forced labour “education” and transferred to Masanjia Labour Camp where she was detained in Group 1, Team 2 of Division 2 of the camp.

On April 12, 2003, her family members received a notice jointly issued by the labour camp, local police station and Liujiawopu village committee, saying that Ms. Zhang was critically ill. On arrival at Masanjia labor camp, they found her dead body already in the mortuary. There were wounds on her body and bloodstains in her nose and mouth. There were also purple speckles on her body.  Her family was not allowed to conduct any further investigation on her death.
