Ms. Li Ying, resident of Youyan Street, Wanghua District, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. She worked for the Gutian Shopping Center and ran a Rice Store on Haicheng Street.
Around 11:30 a.m. on March 31, 2003 police from the Public Security Bureau of Wanghua District and the local police station broke into Ms. Li’s store, arrested her, and took her to the No. 1 Division of the Fushun City Public Security Bureau. Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, four policemen beat her and used different torture instruments to torture her. Around 2 p.m. on April 2, 2003, Ms. Li succumbed to the torture and died.
When her family managed to see her for the last time, she was lying on the ground with a white sheet covering her entire body. Upon pulling the sheet down they found Ms. Li on the verge of death. She only had the strength to tell her husband, "Four policemen beat me..." before dying shortly thereafter.
The autopsy showed that her shoulder was black and blue, and the wounded area extended deep into her body, to about 1.6 inches. Water had accumulated in her kidney, and her liver was a dark, unnatural color. A hole found in her heart was dripping blood.
Policemen Guan Lei, Zhang Tao and Xu Changqing are the major suspects in this brutal murder. Hao Jianguang, as the supervisor of the First Unit of the Public Security Bureau, also bears responsibility for the death of Li Ying.
