Ms. Zhi Guixiang, female, 31, resident of Daling Town, Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province. On the morning of July 19, 2002, police arrested Ms. Zhi while she was walking outside. At the Zhengyang police station, the police tortured her trying to force her to disclose information about other Falun Gong practitioners. On July 20, some people who were visiting the police station noticed that she was in poor physical condition and didn’t even have the strength to talk. She told them that she had suffered internal injuries from being beaten. On July 25, Ms. Zhi’s condition had deteriorated to the point where she was on the verge of death. That afternoon, Zhu Zhishan, the person who handled Ms. Zhi’s case, went to her parents' home in Daling Township, Gongzhuling City, and told them about Ms. Zhi's arrest, but did not mention her condition. Ms. Zhi's mother requested to see her daughter. Zhu Zhishan replied, "That is not going to happen. You are not allowed see her." On July 27, the police tortured Ms. Zhi to death. Later, Zhu Zhishan claimed that she died while on a hunger strike at the China and Japan Fellowship Hospital. When Ms. Zhi's family went to the hospital, however, no one could find Ms. Zhi's medical records. On July 31, without the knowledge or consent of her family, Ms. Zhi's body was secretly cremated at the Shuangfeng Crematory. The cremation certificate showed the trustee to be Zhu Zhishan, the case handler. Ms. Zhi's family did not become aware of any of these circumstances until half a month later. On August 13th and 14th, Ms. Zhi's parents went to see Zhu Zhishan twice and demanded information about their daughter’s whereabouts. Zhu Zhishan blatantly lied and claimed, "Ms. Zhi ran away."

On August 15, Ms. Zhi's family discovered Zhu Zhishan's signature on the cremation certificate form at the Shuangfeng Crematory. Zhu Zhishan finally admitted to the facts, but he said: "Go ahead and sue me whenever you want. I'm not afraid! The government made me do this."
