Description:

In May 2000, Mr. He Zhenyue went to Beijing to appeal for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong. As a result, his work unit fired him and fined him 7,000 Yuan[1]. In December 2000 Mr. He went to Beijing to appeal for the second time and was imprisoned and brutally beaten by the police. After several days of a hunger strike, Mr. He was released. In order to avoid further persecution, Mr. He was forced to leave home. During the night of February 3, 2002, police surrounded the place where Mr. He and four other Falun Gong practitioners lived at Jiaoshiyuan, Jiuliti in Chengdu City. The police broke the iron bars on the window, smashed in both the front and back doors, broke into the room and brutally beat the practitioners. Then the police kidnapped them and held them in Chengdu City Detention Center where the practitioners started hunger strikes to protest their illegal arrest. Two months later, on April 10 at 3 p.m., Chengdu City Detention Center authorities informed the National Security Team of Ziyang City Police Department that Mr. He had died in the detention center. They did not provide any information on how he died.
