Description:
In March 2000, Mr. Yan Xiuzhong was arrested by police and fined 2000 Yuan [the average monthly income of urban areas is about 500 Yuan] for writing a letter to Li Guofu, the Deputy Administrator of Boli County, to explain the truth about Falun Gong. In March 2001, police again forcibly and without cause took Mr. Yan away from his home and sent him to the Suihua Forced Labor Camp. Physical examination records showed that he was in perfect health when he was sent to the labor camp. On October 20, 2001, Mr. Yan went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. On October 29 Mr. Yan died at the labor camp. Suihua Labor Camp officials informed the local Public Security Department that Mr. Yan had died. The camp prepared 3000 Yuan to compensate Mr. Yan’s family for funeral affairs, and cremated Mr. Yan's body in Suihua City. However, the Dasizhan Township police confiscated all the money.
