2. The people in charge of the brainwashing class at the Communist Party School in Laiyang City, Shandong province

A brief report of the incident:

On April 9, 2001, Chief Zhao of the Longwangzhuang Town Government took Li Mei from home to the Town Government. Because Li Mei didn’t renounce her belief in Falun Gong, she was sent to a brainwashing class at the Communist Party School in Laiyang City.  The people, in charge of the brainwashing class, beat her severely.  Li Mei’s spinal cord was injured, causing her legs to become paralyzed.

Later on, Li Mei was sent to the hospital, but the Town Government refused to pay for the cost of her hospitalization. On May 28, 2001, Li Mei died in Laiyang Central Hospital.

The Longwangzhuang Town Government gave Li Mei's family 30,000 Yuan RMB (about US$3,000) and forced the family to sign papers saying that the Town Government was not responsible for Li Mei's death.  Li Mei's husband refused to sign and tried to hire a lawyer. But no lawyer dared to take the case due to the government’s pressure.
