A brief report of the incident:

Zhang Fengyun was arrested while telling people the truth about Falun Gong. She was detained in No. 14 Team of Xiguoyuan Detention Center in Lanzhou City for several months. In order to protest the illegal detention and to ask for an unconditional release of all persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, she started a hunger strike on July 28, 2001. During her hunger strike, policemen of Xiguoyuan Detention Center fiercely beat her. She was force-fed through a pipe inserted into her stomach on the 12^th day of the hunger strike. According to other Falun Gong practitioners who saw Ms. Zhang for the last time on August 8, she was already very weak and on her last breath. On August 10, 2001, the police notified Zhang Fengyun's family of her death.
