A brief report of the incident:

On December 15, 2000, Zeng Xiane went to Beijing to appeal for the right and freedom to practice Falun Gong. She was sent to Shayang Labor Camp without trial.

On August 2, 2001, at 3:00 PM, Zeng Xiane’s husband went to Shayang Labor Camp to see her but was informed by the police that Zeng Xiane was in the hospital.

On August 3, 2001, at 7:00 AM, the police told her husband that Zeng Xiane had died of a heart attack. When he arrived at the hospital, he found that Zeng Xiane’s body had been kept in a freezer and that her clothes had been recently changed. Her husband noticed that her head was severely swollen. He asked if he could remove the clothes and look at the body, but he was denied. Zeng Xiane’s brother brought a doctor of jurisprudence to the hospital to examine the body, but was also denied. The family was not allowed to take any pictures of Zeng Xiane’s body. They were not allowed to take the body back to Shiyan City and were not allowed to stay close by, while the body was being cremated.
