A brief report of the incident:
On December 28, 2000 Mr. Shang Qingling was arrested and sent to Laiwu City Detention Center in Laiwu City, Shandong Province for insisting on practicing Falun Gong. The police tried to force him to write statements attacking Falun Gong and expressing remorse. He refused to do so and instead started a hunger strike in protest. On the 9th day of his hunger strike, the police placed long handcuffs and heavy shackles on him, and forced-fed him with flour soup. The force-feeding caused severe infections of his lungs and trachea. It was too late for emergency treatment in hospital when he was sent to there. He died on January 31, 2001. type=Case,Death; type=Detention Center,Laiwu City Detention Center; location=Shandong, Laiwu |
