A brief report of the incident:

Hu Mingquan, male, 63 years old, was a retiree from Chongqing Jiangbei District Third Steel Plant.

He went to Beijing to appeal to the central government on December 1, 2000. On the December 7, 2000, the Hebei Province police notified his family that they should claim his body at the Huaide County Hospital of Hebei Province. When Hu's son asked about the cause of death, the doctor claimed it was high blood pressure. The son told the doctor that his father had never had any illness. Later, someone who had inside information told the son that Hu died from suffocation when the police force-fed him through the nose.
