Ms. Zhang Xiuying, 65 years of age, lives in Lingshan town, Jimo City of Shandong Province. On June 16, 2007, she was abducted from her home. Her whereabouts are unknown.

Since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Ms. Zhang was arrested and detained several times.

On March 4, 2000, police from Jimo City Police Station detained Ms. Zhang and many other practitioners because they did the Falun Gong exercises together in public in Lingshan Town. Ms. Zhang was confined in a nursing home for twenty days.

In mid-2000, Ms. Zhang and several practitioners attempted to walk to Beijing to appeal for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong, but they were headed off in Tianjin City. They were held in detention for two weeks and then sent back to Lingshan Town.

On September 29, 2002, Dong Quanqi, the director of the Comprehensive Administration Office of Lingshan Town, took Ms. Zhang and her son Fang Shaoliang to the Qingdao Brainwashing Center, where she held a hunger strike for nearly two months. She was then transferred to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp of Zibo City for one more month of detention.

In April 2004, Ms. Zhang was arrested again when she distributed truth-clarifying materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. Subsequently, she was sentenced to two years of forced labor and sent to Zibo City's Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, where she was tortured for a long time just because she refused to renounce her belief.

Two years later, she was released. On June 10, 2007, three staff members from the local 610 Office went to her home and threatened, "We will be back to get you."

At about 9:00 a.m. on June 16, 2007, Cao Shihe, the head of Lingshan No. 3 Village, and the village CCP secretary Zhang Weiguang, along with Dong Quanqi, director of the Comprehensive Administration Office of Lingshan Town, and three police officers from Lingshan Police Station, went to Ms. Zhang’s house.

Chen Yucheng, the director of the Lingshan Police Station instructed them to climb over the fence and smash down the door. They broke into the house, beat Ms. Zhang to the ground and dragged her to a police vehicle. They also searched Ms. Zhang's house and confiscated her personal property, making a huge mess of her home. The kitchen range was destroyed and the windows were broken.

To date, Ms. Zhang Xiuying’s whereabouts are still unknown. Staff members from the local government have also been harassing her son, who operates a local shop.
