Ms. Su Baolan

Ms. Su Baolan was born in 1964, and lived in Shirenpo Village, Shidui Town, Anqiu City, Shandong Province.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, the police and 610 Office agents from Anqiu City frequently threatened and arrested Ms. Su at her home, and extorted money from her. They brainwashed and persecuted Ms. Su's husband. He previously supported his wife's Falun Gong practice, but being persecuted caused him to resent it and he began to viciously beat her.

Ms. Su could no longer stay at home. She left in February 2001 and lived in exile for six months. In mid-October 2001, she went home to visit her parents-in-law, and her husband and child. Officials from Shidui Town Police Department, Anqiu City 610 Office agents and Anqiu City Police Station personnel broke into her home and arrested her. They took her to the Anqiu City Brainwashing Session, held by the 610 Office.

Twelve days later, Ms. Su’s body was found in a small river in Sanhe Village, about 4 miles from Anqiu City in Jinzhongzi Township. The body was on the bottom of the riverbed, in shallow water. Someone dragged the body ashore and the local people immediately called the police. The police arrived, took photos and then left after examining the body, leaving it on the riverbank for three days. The villagers buried Ms. Su as an unidentified body. It wasn't until later that her family heard about what had happened. They went to Sanhe Village and dug up the body. Although her face, the corners of her mouth, and part of her nose were distorted, and there was a wound with stitches and thread on her head, the family still recognized Ms. Su from her clothing and facial features.

Even now, how Ms. Su's died after the police arrested her is still a mystery.

For the past seven years, Ms. Su's whole family has been groundlessly detained, fined, sent to a labor camp and had their homes ransacked. Her father, Su Xiaoyou, the second sister, Su Baoyun, and the youngest sister, Su Baoli, have suffered from persecution. Her mother, Zhou Shufen, opted to leave home to avoid persecution. The whole family has endured more than words can describe.
