A blind masseur in a northern city who works in an orphanage is a kind and just person. He was not well off but he still adopted a blind girl. The orphanage personnel often abuse the orphans, and he tried to persuade them to stop, but to no avail. When he reported the abuse to a supervisor, he was laid off in retaliation.

In 2001, he went to City Hall to appeal his job situation. At that time there were many people appealing at City Hall. He started talking about Falun Gong with the people around him. He said frankly, "Falun Gong is good. They [practitioners] are very kind. Even in the face of the persecution they have always been kind." Because he was overheard making this statement the police put him in the detention center for more than 10 days. They then ransacked his house and sentenced him to a year and a half of prison. Since he is blind and cannot work in the prison, his prison terms were executed outside the prison with surveillance.
