Ms. Zhai Shuzhen, 46, lives in Bianjia Village, Daxing Town, Changtu County, Tieling City, Liaoning Province. Since the nationwide crackdown against Falun Gong began in 1999, she has been persecuted in all kinds of ways for practicing Falun Gong. When the persecution of Falun Dafa began, she went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for justice for Falun Dafa. She was arrested and detained at the Changtu County Detention Center. The center staff extorted large sums of money from her family. After her release, on February 3, 2002, the police discovered her distributing truth-clarification materials about the persecution. They severely and brutally beat her until she had lost consciousness and left her for dead. She was later taken to the Changtu County First People’s hospital where x-rays showed four fractured ribs, severe bleeding into the pleural cavity and a collapsed lung. On another occasion, several police beat her brutally. Since then she has no longer been able to do physical work and often has headaches.

From 2002 to 2005, Ms. Zhai's family has spent about 20,000 Yuan for her treatment due to these brutalities. They have also paid the police money that has been repeatedly extorted from the family. They are now deeply in debt. Her husband went to the Jinjia Town Police Station twice to seek justice, but instead each time he was severely beaten. Her current condition is unknown. In 2005, her health has further deteriorated due to the beatings and she continues to have headaches and can no longer see or take care of herself.
