Mr. Li Hongfu Dies at 31 Following Several Years of Torture

They locked him in an isolation cell and made him stand without moving for long
periods of time. The drug addicts, including Zheng Ping, Liu Renguang, and Zheng
Wei beat him daily. The brutality caused Mr. Li's spleen to rupture and his
chest to collapse. He had difficulty breathing and vomited. Guards at the forced
labor camp were afraid of being responsible for his death, so they took him to
the Beipei District No. 9 People's Hospital. X-ray's and other tests showed
severe internal injuries. The guards claimed that Mr. Li was sick, but the
doctors told them that the beatings caused the injuries...

4. Zheng Ping, Liu Renguang, and Zheng Wei, drug addicts from the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp, Chongqing City.
- Description:
- In July 2000, the police arrested Mr. Li Hongfu when he was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to others. For doing so, the police from the Dadukou Police Sub-Bureau sentenced him to one year of forced labor. The guards at the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp kept torturing him and then they extended his labor camp sentence for another nine months without any legal justification.
They insulted Mr. Li and tortured him using many different torture methods, such as the tiger bench, electric shocks, and nailing bamboo shoots under his fingernails. One time the torture caused Mr. Li to become comatose. The guards believed him to be dead and took him to the labor camp hospital morgue, where someone noticed that he was still alive.
The guards often told practitioners, "We will make your life worse than death."
In December 2001, the guard Liu Hua was appointed section commander. Liu ordered six or seven drug addicts to beat Mr. Li without mercy. Mr. Li suffered internal injuries and his face was horribly swollen.

While in the hospital, Mr. Li was unable to take care of himself, and needed daily transfusions. To escape responsibility, guards at the forced labor camp released Mr. Li on medical bail. Mr. Li weighed less than 40 kg and could no longer walk unaided.
While Mr. Li was persecuted, his wife had to keep the family together. She brought their young son with her to work and accepted hourly labor so they could subsist.
After Mr. Li was taken home, his abdomen was still swollen and he was in excruciating pain. He also vomited frequently. His right elbow was swollen and he was unable to move. Mr. Li never recovered. On December 8, 2006, after suffering years of torture, Mr. Li Hongfu passed away. He was only 31.
