...While Ms. Du was in hospital, her family members found fresh injury marks on her face. The guards claimed that they were caused by her falling out of bed. The guards had repeatedly stopped her family members from talking to her. Ms. Du Jinglan died three days later, on October 27, 2005 at 3:30 a.m. Her body was cremated on October 29...

Ms. Du Jinglan, 55 years old, lived on Ninth Street in Daowai District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Du was an employee of the Daowai District Candy Factory in Harbin City. Ms. Du was sentenced to one year of forced labor at the beginning of 2001. She was tortured in the Wanjia Labor Camp for her belief in Falun Gong.

She was arrested again in August 2002, and detained at the Heilongjiang Province River Transportation Bureau Detention Center. Although she was suffering from high blood pressure, she was beaten by the guards and tortured with the "Hanging Up in the Air " method by tying her hands behind her back, tied her to a rope and pulled the rope up. She was lifted off the ground, for three whole days, disregarding the fact that she could have died at any moment from her high blood pressure. The torture caused open wounds on her wrists, leaving the bones exposed.

In April 2003, Ms. Du was sentenced to seven years in the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison. In November 2003, ordered by prison guards, four inmates dragged Ms. Du by her feet from the prison dorm on the third floor. Her head banged against the ground; her clothes were torn and her body was cut and bruised in the process. They dragged her to the workshop on the third floor, and the inmates banged her head against the staircase. They tortured her with “hanging up in the air” method. The inmates also tortured her with "flying an airplane," where she was bent over and her arms were pulled up from behind her, and she was forced to hold that painful position for long periods of time. Beads of sweat dripped from her face. She was tortured this way until after midnight. Afterwards, Ms. Du was tied up again and not allowed to sleep. She was forced to sit on the cold floor and was tortured the same way the next day. The torture lasted for about two weeks.

In September 2003, Ms. Du was chained to the floor and later forced to run. Other practitioners were shocked to see her walking with her back bent at a 90-degree angle. Her blood pressure measured 280 mm Hg, at the very top of the sphygmomanometer, so it's unknown what her true blood pressure was. She was forcibly injected with a blood pressure-lowering drug. Then the inmates dragged her out and forced her to run and do exercises. She did not have the strength to run, so the guards ordered the inmates beat er. Ms. Du was badly injured from the beatings.

She was deprived of the right to sleep or use the restroom at night and forced to sit on cold concrete floor. She was handcuffed to the heating pipes, hung up and beaten with wooden sticks, and was brutally dragged around by other prisoners. She went on a hunger strike to protest the abuse. Even thought, her blood pressure was 250 mm Hg, but she was still tortured and two of her teeth fell out as a result of forced feeding. Once, her face and head were beaten until they became deformed after she was caught reading some Falun Gong materials.

After suffering long-term, inhuman torture, Ms. Du was close to death by October 23, 2005. She was taken to the Second Hospital of the Medical University in an unconscious state, but the Prison Administration refused to pay and forced her family to pay the bill. Her family had to borrow money to have her treated. The Deputy Ward Head Zhang even tried to force her family to pay for the taxi and meals of the guards. Zhang threatened the family, saying, "If you refuse to cooperate with us, we will take her back to the prison." That night, Ms. Du was handcuffed to the bed while unconscious, despite her family's pleas to have the handcuffs removed.

During Ms. Du was in hospital, her family members found fresh injury marks on her face while in the hospital. The guards claimed that they were caused by her falling out of bed. The guards had repeatedly stopped her family members from talking to her. Ms. Du Jinglan died three days later, on October 27, 2005 at 3:30 a.m. Her body was cremated on October 29.

Ms. Du’s brother-in-law, who is not a Falun Gong practitioner, was sentenced to one year in prison because he spoke out about his sister-in-law's abuse. His hair turned white due to the severe mental and physical trauma.
